In 1937–1938, more than 700 thousand people were executed in the USSR. The repressive operations were strictly classified, no information about the places of executions and burials has been found in the archives. The Stalin's government did it's best to hide the number of victims, realizing the criminality of such actions.

50 years later, the stories of participants and witnesses, indirect documents and fieldwork helped to find the largest mass graves. Modern non-invasive research methods make it possible to identify areas of "soil anomalies" — suspected burial sites.

More than 90 burial sites of those executed during the Great Terror are known in Russia today and dozens still have not been discovered. The exhibition tells the history of the discovery and research of 10 mass graves of the Great Terror.
